Operation Amherst.
On the night of 7th-8th April 1945 there were 702 French paratroopers in northern Netherlands trimmed. In the fighting that followed 33 men lost their lives. Partly thanks to the efforts off these brave men,Drenthe was libarated a week later.
This weekend is exactly 65 years ago that these actions took place. In Drenthe there is a lot attention for this event. Today there was a military camp set up at Assen. There were many old cars on display and there are (play)fights . Very impressive.
In the style of the times, I put the pictures in black and white.
Let's never forget what happened then. Through the heroic actions of then, we can live in freedom today. Many gave their lives for our freedom.
